The base ES trim has 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side door mirrors, LED headlights, and it comes with LED taillight and LED daytime running lights. The SE adds LED fog lights, and it comes with power-folding side mirrors and a chrome-tipped exhaust. Step up to the SP for a rear spoiler, a black tailgate protector, a carbon grille, and Special Edition badging. A GT model sits at the top of the lineup with black roof rails.

The base engine for the Outlander Sport is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 148 horsepower. It works with a continuously variable automatic transmission and comes with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available as an upgrade for any of the trim levels. The GT Outlander Sport gets a more powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This powertrain generates 168 horsepower and gets 167 pound-feet of torque.

This small SUV can get up to 24 miles per gallon in the city, and it will get up to 30 mpg on the highway with the base engine. The GT trim with the 2.4-liter engine can get up to 23 mpg city, and it will get 29 mpg highway. The larger engine will also get you up to 60 miles per hour in just under eight seconds.

The Outlander Sport fits five passengers. Cloth upholstery comes standard along with automatic climate control, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with integrated controls for the audio system. A six-way manually adjustable driver's seat also comes standard. The Convenience Package adds heated front seats while bumping up to the SE adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The SP makes the heated front seats standard. Technology includes a 7-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, a USB port, and HD radio. An 8-inch touch screen is part of the available Convenience Package along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, and a voice command button for the steering wheel controls. The Link Display Audio system is part of this upgrade.

All of the Outlander Sport models have a rearview camera, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. Hill-start assist also comes standard. A forward-collision mitigation system is an available option along with a pedestrian detection system and lane departure warning. Automatic high beam headlights are also a feature you can add, and depending on the trim you can get rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot warning with lane change assist.
