2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross stands out in the compact SUV market because it has a sporty look and an abundance of standard features. For 2022, the Eclipse Cross gains a new, more modern design for the front and rear ends, a redesigned rear liftgate, and updates in the cabin. There's also a new 8-inch touch screen for the infotainment system, and Mitsubishi added gray leather upholstery as an option.
Trim Levels
The entry-level Eclipse Cross ES comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, and if you choose the LE, you'll get 18-inch alloy wheels, heated exterior side mirrors, and integrated turn signals. The SE gains some sporty features to make it stand out in the lineup and comes with automatic LED headlights. The optional Panorama Package for the SE gets you black roof rails and a sunroof. At the top of the 2022 Eclipse Cross lineup, the SEL has a black front bumper, and it offers the option for the Touring Package with a power panoramic sunroof, body-colored front and back bumpers, and black roof rails.
Engine
All of the 2022 Eclipse Cross models come with the same powertrain. The 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine develops 152 horsepower and generates 184 pound-feet of torque. It works with front-wheel drive or the optional Super All-Wheel control all-wheel-drive system.
Performance
The high seating position and small size make the Eclipse Cross feel sporty behind the wheel. Mitsubishi made some improvements to the suspension to improve handling and cornering. The SEL offers paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, which add to the driving experience by allowing the driver to shift the CVT and simulate the gears of a traditional transmission.
Interior
There's room for up to five in the Eclipse Cross, and all seats have plenty of cushioning and legroom. Cloth upholstery comes standard with heated front seats added to the LE and above. Stepping up from the base also gets you a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and if you want heated rear seats, they come with the Touring Package for the SEL.
Technology and infotainment features in the Eclipse Cross start with a 7-inch display screen, a USB port, and Bluetooth in the ES. Take a step up from the ES model to get an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and satellite radio, while the SE upgrades to a six-speaker stereo system and adds Mitsubishi Connect and navigation. Add the optional SEL touring package, and you can get an 8-speaker stereo.
Safety Features
Every Eclipse Cross comes with advanced safety systems such as forward collision warning with mitigation, pedestrian detection, and a lane-departure warning system. The LE adds automatic high beam headlights, and the SE comes with a blind-spot monitor, lane-changing assist, and a rear cross-traffic alert feature. Stepping up to the top-level SEL gets you all of these safety systems, and it adds a multi-view camera system and the option for high-speed braking capability for the forward collision mitigation system. The SEL adds adaptive cruise control if you have the Touring Package, which also comes with a head-up display and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink.
