If you’re in the market for a used car, and you want something efficient, look no further. Here’s a list of used cars with great gas mileage that won’t break your budget either.

1. Honda Civic Hybrid

The Honda Civic Hybrid is a great option for those looking to save money — it’s affordable, and has excellent fuel efficiency on the roads. The older Civic’s four-cylinder hybrid engine, and the newer model 1.5-liter turbo are two of the most fuel-efficient on the market.

You can find a Civic on the market anywhere from $5,000 for a 2011 model, and up to $14,000 for a 2018 model. The 2011 hybrid model gets a 40/43 city/highway MPG rating. The 2018 1.5-liter turbo models get up to a 32/42 city/highway MPG rating.

2. Ford Fusion Hybrid

The Ford Fusion Hybrid has been around for nearly a decade. A 2011 Fusion comes with Ford’s 2.5-liter in-line four-cylinder hybrid engine. EPA mileage ratings of 41/36 city/highway are clearly outstanding.

The Ford Fusion may run you a little more money, coming in at around $6,500. A 2017 Ford Fusion will start around $11,000 and comes nicely equipped. In addition, the newer models come with many new driver-assist features. Also, if you find one equipped with Ford’s SYNC-3 infotainment system, you will get you all the technology perks found on the brand new models.

3. Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius is one of the most efficient hybrid vehicles on the market, period. A 2014 Prius will start at just over $10,000, but you’ll be getting a lot of mileage out of this dependable car. The hatchback model gets an astounding 51/49 city/highway MPG ratings.

The Prius has one of the fastest recharge times, and offers a full-electric mode that will take you up to 16 miles without using any fuel. Many of the 2014 and newer models are well-equipped with touchscreen technology, voice control navigation, and more.

4. Volkswagen Jetta

The Volkswagen Jetta is classic German engineering, delivering a comfortable, quality ride. A five-year old hybrid model will run you around $6,000-$14,000 or more depending on the mileage and options, but it’s worth the money.

The 2014 model gets 42/48 city/highway MPG ratings, getting you the economy you’re looking for, without sacrificing performance. Diesel and hybrid options are both widely available, and both offer their own unique savings.

5. Mazda 3 Skyactiv

The Mazda 3 Skyactiv makes the list without a diesel or hybrid-drive powertrain, because it still achieves excellent EPA fuel ratings. A 2012 model gets up to 28/40 city/highway MPG ratings, making it a great choice.

Although this car is one of the most expensive on this list — coming in at $5,000 for the 2012— it provides great handling, and has plenty of room, unlike many economy cars.

If you’re looking for a used car with great gas mileage, check out one of these models before you buy. Or come test drive one today and see for yourself.
