Springdale may be the fourth-largest city in Arkansas, but it is #1 when it comes to delicious baked goods. When you venture deep into our beloved Ozark Mountains, you’ll find more than just flora and fauna, as Springdale is full of hardworking locals who have opened up bakeries in and around the city. We’ve chosen three of our favorites, so the next time you’re on a road trip through Arkansas or just running errands downtown, you’ll know exactly where to stop for a sweet treat.

Bliss Cupcake Café

Now, this truly is “bliss”! Bliss Cupcake Café opened to rave reviews in 2009. Each day, you’ll find up to a dozen different cupcake flavors at Bliss, all baked from scratch. Local favorites include Blackberry Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Milkshake, and Chocolate Chip Pancake. The bakers also whip up cookies, edible cookie dough, frosting “shots,” cake balls, and candied pretzels.

For those with gluten sensitivities, three gluten-free flavors are available, and Bliss even makes a “Bliss for Pups”, perfectly suitable for your canine friends. If you are in need of cupcakes for a wedding, gender reveal, or another event, the folks at Bliss can help you make a custom order from their recipe book of over 75 unique flavors.

While the store has since opened four locations, the original is located at 637 E. Joyce Blvd. It is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Follow Bliss on social media for the daily menu, special deals, and new flavor announcements.

Take a peek in the display cases for a wide selection of desserts, including manteconcha, rosca de reyes, pan de muerto, churros, and so much more. Savory treats like empanadas and tamales are available, too. If you are planning a birthday party or event, contact Ayala’s Panaderia to order a custom cake.

You’ll want to arrive hungry and early at Ayala’s, which is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week. Freshly-baked goods and friendly staff are always on the menu at this bakery.

Shelby Lynne’s Cake Shoppe

Jennifer Matsubara opened her bakery in 2001, but the accolades have piled on over the last two decades, as Matsubara has won numerous regional and national cake decorating competitions. Now, she’s known as one of the state’s top cake decorators. When you pair cake flavors like lemon, chocolate espresso, and pumpkin spice with fillings such as coconut cream, dark chocolate ganache, and Irish cream, what could be better? In addition to creatively-decorated custom cakes, Shelby Lynne’s Cake Shoppe also offers a variety of confections like petite fours, cupcakes, iced butter cookies, and French macaroons.

The bakery, located at 118 W. Emma Avenue in Springdale, is open Saturday and Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
